Caring for people takes more than thought or good intention.
True care takes practice and action.
Here are some ways I give care to my clientele.
-I use powder pigments, as opposed to plastic-based, cheaper inks. Powder pigments are made up of minerals harvested from oxidizing different metals. To me, that seems much more natural than colored plastic under your skin.
-I bandage my customers appropriately for their lifestyle and environment. An elderly person is going to have very different skin than an 18 year old, and may need a simpler design for their tattoo. It may require more open areas of skin to ensure the healing process goes as smoothly as it can. If someone has cats or dogs at home, they might be a good candidate for second skin (a clear bandage that stays on your skin for 5 days) to keep pet dander out of their tattoo. But if they have allergies to adhesives we would use a different strategy.
-I use cushions and bolsters to make the experience more comfortable. It makes the installation of the tattoo go smoother. If a person receiving a tattoo is uncomfortable, it can lead to less ideal healing. If the person is flexing when being tattooed, the needle can cause more trauma than if the person was relaxed.
-I use plastic barriers and drape sheets to discourage infection and cross contamination. I care about our earth, but I care about your life more. For that reason, I use disposable/single use products. I care for the earth by using less, and by using as many biodegradable/better options as possible.
-I ran into a health issue from overusing my wrist last year. Rest assured I won’t push beyond what is reasonable. I'm not willing to hurt myself, or you, or both. I only do what is comfortable and safe for me. I intend to be 100% there for every person, without compromising my career's longevity. Things may change after my injury heals, but for now this is how I work.
-Mental health is essential. If I’m not well, I’m not able to tattoo. I like to schedule appointments if I can. This allows me to lower my stress level, and be completely prepared for your day. For custom tattoos, I like to have at least 2 days' drawing time to give you and myself my best. That being said, I don’t mind some spontaneous tattooing! Especially if the customer already has an image they want tattooed. For walk-in tattoos, I steer people towards something that can be easily drawn on the spot. This helps keep quality high.
-I care about making my environment welcoming and calming. It is my goal to provide a relaxing place. I make sure the decor is cute, while abiding by health standards. It's also very important to me to care for the space by using respectful and kind language. I go to therapy bimonthly, and try to skate and/or exercise every day, so I can feel full. That way I can be in the moment with you and honor your tattoo experience.
I hope you have an excellent time getting tattooed, no matter your reasoning for getting one! I’ll give you the best tattoo I can that day/your day, and do my best to serve you. If I feel you are being disrespectful, or if I have to let you go as a client, I will do my best to still be kind during the termination of our relationship. If you can be respectful and reasonable, and communicate with me, you will never have to worry about that happening. Thank you, gorgeous lovelies! ❤️ I hope you choose me to make something aesthetically pleasing, but also fun and/or weird for you. But if not, I wish you well, and I hope you find the tattooer for you. I do believe there’s one for everyone! Thank you potential customer/tattoo collector.
